Are you Using Pinterest the right way?
How and for what do you use Pinterest?
I am a Pinterest Addict. LOL. I am on Pinterest, or pinning from websites all day! I have 6,800 pins, and 784 followers and growing every day! I asked you How and for what do you use pinterest. Is it to keep track of recipe's, or maybe your a big DIY fan and you pin useful DIY's. Maybe you like crafts and you pin craft related pins from crochet to jewelry making. Or maybe you pin everything like me, I have soooo many boards, I need to do a blog post on organizing pinterest boards. HaHa!
Most everyone I have met or talked to pins a little of everything, But did you ever think of different ways to use Pinterest? I have put together this blog post with some amazing ideas just for you so you can get the most out of pinterest!
Who are you, Fill in the blanks.
The first tip I have is to fill out your profile completely. I didn't do that for a long time and had very few followers. When I filled out My Pinterest Profile suddenly I had all kinds of new followers. New followers = More exposure, right! If you need any help with your profile or have questions feel free to comment below and I'll try my best to help you.
Pinterest Party?
My first big idea is a Pinterest Party. That's right, a virtual party on your Pinterest board. It incorporates Facebook to invite keep track of, and update everyone who is coming, or even might come to the party.(I'll be posting all about Facebook Parties soon) Basically you have a fan page, you add a event(Like the Pinterest Party) and you invite people. You can also invite people by posting in Facebook Groups.

I had not heard of a Pinterest Party before I decided to host one, which by the way is going on all week if your interested Click here for the link . I figured out by trial and error what works best. You then invite people that want to come to the party to pin to your board. In order for them to be able to pin to the board you need to invite them with their email address, and they have to follow you on Pinterest. I have games like a scavenger hunt, where each person hunts for certain pins, and comments on them when they find them. I have a gypsy Jenn says game that's like Simon Says, where the party goer has to either find a pin that I say, or Answer a question about a certain pin. This keeps the party interesting and keeps people interacting with you. The last game is for everyone's benefit. The pin it game where you can pin whatever you want, but you have to do some action in return, like "Liking" another persons pin, or commenting, or even sharing another party goers pin to one of your boards. This strategy helps get more exposure for you and others alike. If you do decide to have a Pinterest Party please let me know I would love to come, and I would love to hear your ideas and questions about the Pinterest party in the comments!
Most Important first!
Have you moved your boards around, like ever? I used to not care where my pin boards were, but then when I started getting more followers I wanted them to see my most important boards first. The one's I pin to the most, So I moved the not so important ones to the bottom. This way people can either follow me, or one or more of my boards of their choosing. Even if you only use Pinterest for personal use it's still nice to not have to scroll down through all the boards you don't use often to find the ones you do use often. I also suggest changing each boards main cover so that you can find them easier. Also did you know you can upload your own photos directly to a board, with or without adding a website, Really it's true. So you can create your own covers for each board.
So Many Recipe's
So, you know your board with all the recipes, Yes that one we all have one. Or maybe you are a bit more organized than me and you have one for main courses, one for sides, etc. Well how many times have you pinned a recipe only to go back to look for it before cooking and you can't find it. That used to happen to me all the time, until I had the idea to make a board for the week's meal , I created one board for desserts, one for main courses, and one for side dishes. These boards I keep secret, because I don't want someone re-pinning a recipe that I'm going to erase from the board the next week. Each week I go through My main recipe board and pick out pins of what I want to cook that week, This is when I also make sure the pin is valid and not spam, by actually clicking on the pin to go to the site. I learned that the hard way. I remove the previous weeks pins and then pin each recipe I need for that week on it's correct board. It saves so much time to do it all at once rather than taking a hour, or two , or three (Because I get distracted by new pins. LOL) to find that night recipe's.
Epic Business Board Idea!
Now for my most epic idea, One that I'm still working on is a business board. Another secret board where you pin products that you sell as a kind of holding spot . I can't count the times I've pinned the same pin from my shop, and let's face it no one following me wants to see 10 of the same exact pins. So I pin to a secret board for example "Bracelets" and I pin 10-20 items at a time. Then I take each item and pin it to relevant boards. I might pin it twice if I think it would do well on both boards, then I erase the original pin on the secret board. This way if I get distracted by the phone, kids, dogs, cats, or fish LOL , I can remember where I stopped. This is time consuming but I make sure I get all my products pinned, and not all to my own boards, I pin on community boards as well.
Pick a board, Maintenance .
Maintaining your Pinterest boards is crucial! When you get so many pins on so many boards it can get out of control and you can't find what you want when you need it! I take one board at a time so I don't get overwhelmed and re-pin, remove double pins, remove broken link pins, and rewrite some descriptions if needed. This helps keep me organized and gets more pinners to see my boards, and pins more easily.
I really hope you have enjoyed this blog post. If you have questions or comments, Don't be shy, ask away!
